India is a country rich in culture, and many of the traditions originated here! There are more than 500 languages and cultures in India. Languages, cultures, rituals, and other factors have been influencing Indian weddings over the years. So, every wedding in India is treated like a festival and includes numerous rituals. These weddings are celebrated for three days, and the ceremonies are a lot of fun. So what are the ceremonies, then? What happens during the traditional ceremony, and how should the celebrations be ?


Engagement Ceremony

Engagement Ceremony, the first ceremony  that takes place a few days in advance,before the Wedding Muhurtham The bride and groom participate in this ritual, and during it they exchange wedding rings and floral garlands. The parents of the bride and groom also exchange gifts and sweets in dreams that the couple will have a trouble-free future together. The typical ending of the engagement ritual is when they choose the actual Muhurtham date.

 

Sangeeth Ceremony

Ceremony that each guest looks forward to the most. That took place on the wedding ceremony's first day. While sangeet ceremonies are still often held separately in many parts of India, the current generation believes that the ceremonies should be celebrated together rather than individually. Involve everyone so they may enjoy the event and remember their own wedding celebrations. They Invite all of the relatives, friends, and family members. When compared to other ceremonies, this one is distinct because there are no ritual activities involved. The couple's favourite wedding memories are created at this ceremony, which brings them much joy.

 

Haldi Ceremony

The haldi ritual was held in the morning of the Muhurtham day from both the bride and groom sides. The couple traditionally takes a holy bath from a family member using a mixture of haldi, oil, sandalwood, and rosewater to moisturise their skin. The primary reason behind this is the adequacy of ingredients and colour brings prosperity to start a new life. According to scientific research, haldi has an exfoliating ingredient that removes dead skin cells, detoxifies the skin, and boosts the body's immunity.  According to Hindu mythology, the negative things inside the body will go during the event.

 

Mehndi Ceremony

The mehndi is a natural part of a hindu wedding. The night before the wedding, there was a mehndi ceremony. The bride's family, the groom's family, and the bride's friends gather at a location for this ceremony, after which they apply mehndi on their palms. This is their day, which is jam-packed with games, jokes, music, and dancing. The bride, in particular, has the opportunity to meet his family and friends. Mehndi, sometimes referred to as henna, is used to apply elaborate patterns to people's legs and palms. The mehndi is thought to repel evil, enhance fertility, and attract good energy. The bride's family often hosts the mehndi ceremony, and they invite the groom's family to attend as guests. Most people have the belief that the darker the colour of the bride Mehndi , reflects affection from the groom.

 

Varmala  Ceremony

With the arrival of the groom and his baraat at the ceremony location, the garland was exchanged. The Varmala ceremony has deep historical significance. In the past, females would place a garland to indicate their choice of spouse. The marriage ceremony serves as a symbol of her acceptance of the groom. The majority of people like fresh floral garlands with the best combinations for mandaps and garlands; many of them favour marigolds and red roses. Varmala is more significant than a mandap ceremony. Once the garland is exchanged, the pair becomes legally half-married. Swayamvaram is another name for the ritual.


Mandap Ceremony

On the wedding day, the mandap ceremony is of utmost importance because it is where all of the significant rituals are carried out. The four pillars of the mandap stand in for the parents on either side, and they represent gratitude for the crucial role that they performed in bringing their child into the world and providing ongoing support through all of life's challenges. Holy fire, which serves as a witness to the marriage, is present during the ceremony. During the mandap ceremony, additional rites are carried out. Last  the bride and groom make seven rounds around the holy fire to represent that they would stand together till their very last breath.

 

Mangala Dharanam

This ritual is very important in Hindu weddings. A necklace or thread containing a gold or diamond pendant is called a Mangalsutra. The bride is seated on the left side of the husband, closest to his heart. The groom then ties a knot around the bridal neck and places a sindoor on his forehead, giving the bridal wedded status. The Sanskrit words for the mangala and sutra are "holy" and "thread," respectively. The mangalsutra is a vow made by the partners to be faithful and happy at all times and to know the importance of three Knots.

 

Vidhaai

The vidaai ceremony is the final phase of the wedding, when the bride says goodbye to her family and departs from her mother's home. This ritual signifies the end of the bride's life as a daughter and the beginning of her new role as a wife. For the groom and his family, the wedding ceremony is a bitter sweet occasion. It functions goes with feelings and sorrow.
